Why the internet is hurting local businesses

Local businesses are hurting according to one local Waipukurau business owner, and that's not because of local bricks and mortar competition.  No, his major competition is now the internet.  Let's face it, all market research is now done on the web.  People have done their research on the net before they even walk into your shop.  I'm afraid that this is not going to change in the near future either.
My advice is to formulate a plan that will allow you to leverage the internet and all it has to offer.  If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!
Your first step should be to put in place an online strategy and setting some goals that you want to achieve.  Once you've looked at this, you may find that you don't necessarily need a website.
For example, if you are an accommodation provider there are plenty of websites to have your listing in, without having to build your own site.
If you are a retail business, Your best option may be to sell through Trademe although you'll want to weigh up success fees v having your own online eccomerce site.
With the internet it's about creating awareness and evangelists of your shop, brand, product or service.  There are many channels to pursue marketing your business on the internet and it's a case of getting the right strategy in place cause lets face it,  it's not going away any time soon.
If technology scares you, give me a call and I'll step you through whats available.
